How Long Does It Take to Ship a Car?

When shipping a car, there are two major factors that determine how long it takes to get your car from your origin to your destination: scheduling a pickup and time in transit. Let’s take a look at each of these:
Scheduling a Pickup
Ideally, you should schedule a pickup date 1-2 weeks in advance. This gives the car shipping company more flexibility to find the right truck for shipping your car. However, if you are under a time constraint, car shipping companies can often get your vehicle shipped in less than 7 days. However, you might have to pay a small premium to ship your vehicle if it is a rush.
Once you have scheduled a pickup, please be aware that the pickup date is typically a 3-day window. Read our post on Common Reasons for Car Shipping Delays to better understand why there are often delays during auto transport.
Time in Transit
Once your car is on the car carrier, the shipping time is a matter of how far your car is shipping and what other stops your car carrier has to make. To ship a vehicle across the US typically takes 1-2 weeks. Shorter distances (e.g. along the East Coast) are typically shorter. However, to get an accurate estimate, it is best to contact a car shipping company.
